Wave 2
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/13/16
Darkened the sky so that the windswept foam spray at the top will be more visible later. Also darkened the wave on the left. The foam needs lots more work after the blues dry. Painting outside after all. I will finish this one before working on the others.
Waves 3, 4, and 5
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/11/16
Added more paint to the 11x14 canvases. Did not work on Wave 2 today but will do so next while these 3 are drying.

Big Wave III, IV, V ?
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/09/16
Since I like to wait till layers of oil paint are semi-dry before adding more paint, I decided to block in the first layers on three more (11x14) canvases using paint already on my palette.. The 4 big wave paintings will have tomorrow to dry while I am at a craft fair in Princeville Then I will work on each in turn during the week and set them aside to dry and so forth until they are done or fall out of the lineup. This should be interesting and I hope not too confusing on this blog. Another reason for doing them all at once is that I remembered why I moved into watercolors. My sinuses react to the oil paint and cleaner.and I am having to use a house painter's respirator mask while I paint indoors. I take the paintings outside to dry. Mosquitos like me so I don't paint outside.
Big Wave II
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/09/16
I am going to have to let this oil painting dry for a few days before adding more paint. I don't want the white foam to pick up the blue of the background. I also want to add more thin layers of glaze without disturbing the paint underneath.
Will start another small oil painting, 11x14, and then rotate the paintings as one is drying. We will call this one Big Wave II and the next one Big Wave III. The first Big Wave is on my website and that was done awhile ago.
A Wave in Oil Paint
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/08/16
Taking a break from floral watercolors with this wave painting in oils. These should definitely go faster with the bigger brushes and the one wave simplicity. Oops, just noticed the crooked horizon line.
Daisy Wilcox, "A Bee's Perspective"
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/05/16
This is my 3rd painting of the Daisy Wilcox plumeria variety. It is officially finished!. I am calling this one, 'A Bee's Perspective,' a title suggested by my son, Eric.
PaintingsbyMarcia Etsy Store is Active
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/04/16
I activated my Etsy store yesterday. If you would like to check it out, go to https://www.etsy.com and do a search for PaintingsbyMarcia. There are no spaces between words in the name of the store. Offerings are divided into four sections. 5x7" prints and 8x11" prints, note card gift sets, and my 2017 wall calendar.
Back to Daisy
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 09/01/16
I am still working on the space up top between the flower on the right and the buds on the left. Will fade it more into the background. Then will finish the edges of the petals and add more pink to them as needed. The next photo should be the finished painting.
Paintings by Marcia Etsy Store and Storm Preparation
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/29/16
Taking a break from my painting and working on my Etsy store. Should be active in a week when the rest of the inventory arrives.
Meanwhile, we are keeping an eye on Hurricane Madeline which gained speed and is heading toward the Big Island of Hawaii in the next couple of days and then is projected to move southerly away from the other islands. Hurricane Lester follows and most of the islands will be getting lots of rain from that one by the weekend. Hopefully, the winds will have died down by then and we can call it just a tropical storm. Gas tanks full and supplies checked.
Daisy Continuing On
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/25/16
Will be adding more flowers or at least hint of petals top left and also decided to define the buds in that area. Not happy with the bottom right background petals so will be working in that area. I like the dark green effect of leaves and shadows bottom left and upper right.
Daisy Background
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/23/16
Darkening the background after all. Too much of the same values throughout the painting. If I want the flowers to pop more, I need to have a darker background.
Defining Daisy Petals
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/22/16
Going darker with the petal shadows and colors. There are 4 flowers and then some buds on the upper left.
Backtracking A Bit
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/21/16
I went a bit too heavy on the background greens and removed some of it. If you use thick paper (300# Arches brand) like I do, gentle scrubbing out with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Original works great. You can scrub, let the area dry, and then go back in for a little more scrubbing if you need to. I decided to go with a softer background for this Daisy Wilcox Painting.
If anyone has a question about the process, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. I used to be a school teacher and love to share.

Daisy II Inch by Inch
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/18/16
Step by step, inch by inch, adding pinks, darkening shadows and developing buds on upper left.
Setting Up Etsy Store
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/16/16
I started working on my Etsy store in 2014 but never activated it! I have ordered my inventory and should be up and running by the end of this month. I will be offering note card gift sets, my 2017 wall calendar, along with 5x7 and 8x11 matted prints on archival paper. The store name will probably be Paintings by Marcia. Will post when it is active.
Now back to my 20x28: Daisy Wilcox painting.
Daisy II Adding Pink
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/12/16
Softened the hard edges of the petals in the background in the upper left and right corners. Started to add some pinks and more shadow contours to define the flowers.
Daisy II Continued
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/10/16
Added darker shadows on some petals and yellow/gold in the flower centers. There is more yellow than the photo shows. The mask protecting some of the white areas is still on the paper.
Daisy Wilcox Plumerias Giclee Print Now Available
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/09/16
Please note that the sky color is really more of a royal/cobalt blue. It appears as turquoise on the gallery website photo. The original painting has been sold and will be sent to a family in Washington State. I have added the 20x25" giclee prints in the "Other Plumerias" gallery. If you prefer a smaller size, please contact me using the "Request Information" link. The small 5x7" matted prints should be available in about a week.
Making good progress with Daisy Wilcox II. Stay tuned. Using larger brushes for the larger flowers.
Daisy II Shadows 20x28"
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/09/16
First layer of flower shadows are in. These will be large blossoms compared to the last painting.
