Daisy Wilcox Plumerias II Looser
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/08/16
This second Daisy Wilcox plumeria painting will be approximately 20x28" with a looser background and larger flowers. Some of the plumerias will be defined and some of the outer ones will be muted. Let's see how it goes. . . I have added liquid mask (blue color) to save some white highlights. I also have blue in the background colors which is not mask.
Small Prints Available
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/05/16
I have added a new page on this website called 'Small Prints."
The prints are 5x7" in 8x10" double mats and will fit standard size frames.
Larger 8x11" in 11x14" double mats can be requested by using the 'Request Information' link.
The first online purchase was of my 'Tree of Life' print which seems to be popular at the fairs. It is not in my usual style so I may need to do more of them. Samples of the thick matting are pictured. The 'Big Wave' is in a double white mat. The preteens love this one!
Daisy Wilcox Plumerias Done!
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/04/16
This 16x20" painting is finished! I did remove the petal in shadow on the upper left that I mentioned in the last post, added a little more pink to petal edges and cleaned the edges up too. Off to the photographer today and prints will be available on my website in about a week. Small prints on the new "Small Prints" page as well. The original will be at a home in Seattle.
Daisy Almost Done
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/03/16
This painting is almost done. I am going to get rid of that petal in shadow to the left and behind the full blossom upper left. It will help the flower to stand out.
Refining and Defining Daisy Wilcox Plumerias
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 08/01/16
Working on the leaves in upper right. Finally happy with the color of the blue sky. Next will define petal edges either by darkening the shadow behind them and/or painting a fine line edge on the petals. I will probably change the leaf coming in from the right above the bud to have the veins go the other way as if the leaf is not a part of this branch.

by Marcia Minnichhofer on 07/27/16
The calendars have arrived and are available on this website. I will have them at the fairs as well. You can view them at the Calendar link on the left.
Daisy Wilcox Continued
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 07/27/16
I am developing the left side and have darkened shadows and colors throughout the painting. The sky is bluer to offset the flowers in contrast. I still have liquid mask on some petals where the edges will be very white.
Back to Daisy Wilcox Plumerias
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 07/20/16
Hooray! I am back again after retina surgery and am making good progress with what has become my favorite plumeria to paint. I will continue to work on the background more to see how the flowers stand out in front of the leaves.
2017 Wall Calendar
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 07/11/16
I have ordered my 2017 wall calendars and the pages can be viewed by clicking on the Calendar link on the left of this page. They should be ready for shipping in August in case you wish to reserve one. The quality is the same thick card stock with glossy photos and a matte calendar for easy writing.
Recovering but Not Quite There
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 06/28/16
Glad to say that my left eye vision is improving but both eyes are not in sync yet. I don't want to spoil the Daisy painting so will wait at least another week to finish it. Thanks to those of you who are checking in. I appreciate the interest in your following along as I paint.
Painting Delay
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 06/19/16
Back from 2 weeks on Oahu after successful retina surgery to repair a macular hole in the left eye. Painting with one eye is an effort so I will have to wait to complete the Daisy Wilcox plumeria painting. Vision should improve in a week. . . or two. Thanks for checking in.
Off to Oahu
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 06/06/16
Will be on Oahu for a couple of weeks. Can't wait to finish the Daisy Wilcox painting when I return. It might be my best plumerias yet.
Daisy Continued

A petal at a time. . . .
I am liking and enjoying this one with the large flowers!
Daisy Wilcox Plumerias

Added first glaze of some leaves and started the flower centers to see what the overall painting looks like and to see where the shadows have to go darker next to the white parts.

Feel free to post comments or ask questions
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/22/16
I have turned on the comments function on the blog. There are some people who check in on this blog regularly. I don't know if you are also painters, but please feel free to ask questions anytime or add comments. I am not an expert. I continue to learn new things about watercolor painting and don't mind sharing ideas/techniques. I used to be a special education teacher and everything taught was "step by step" so I enjoy showing the steps of my painting process. If you prefer to contact me privately, my email address is [email protected].
Daisy Plumerias 16x20"
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/22/16
This variety of plumeria is called Daisy Wilcox. It is a mostly white plumeria with pink at one edge of the petal. I started painting the shadows and then decided that I had better mask the areas where I want to be sure to "save" the whites. In actuality, the blossoms can be at least 5 inches wide.
New Small Prints at the Fairs
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/20/16
It will be interesting to see if there is any interest in these landscapes and "other" paintings. I will have one of each at the Princeville Fair tomorrow at the Church of the Pacific from 8 to 2. Sleeping Giant(profile)was an oil painting. I went through a Kalalau Beach /NaPali phase with different styles.
I have started a plumeria painting. Will post after I am further along.
Bali Ducks Done!
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/18/16
Have finished the 'Bali Ducks' with a different background. I still wanted the rice fields in to remember trekking through them to take photos of these runner ducks in Bali.

Bali Ducks Background in Limbo
by Marcia Minnichhofer on 05/16/16
I added a layer of yellow over the background and may go very dark with it in the end. The tones of the background and the ducks were similar and I found myself going darker and darker with the ducks which is not their true color. I still have not removed the masking from the grasses although I put a layer of the yellow on the foreground.
I am going to start another plumeria painting while finishing up the 'Bali Ducks.' It might help to let the ducks rest in between.
